MARISSA MCCLURE, PHD
Marissa McClure, PhD

I am a researcher and teacher interested in contemporary and historical theories of child art; constructions of childhood; children and visual and media culture; ethics and politics of early childhood education; children as individual and group learners; theories of learning and cognitive development; relationships between art, play, and cognition; critical theory in art education theory and practice; constructions of gender and play; early childhood education; and pedagogical documentation as research methodology. In particular, I have studied the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education and the roles of the atelier and atelierista in preschools and infant/toddler centers. My current work concerns young children’s use of digital media and psychoanalytic and social theory in early childhood art and visual culture education.
