BECKY SHIPE
Becky Shipe

At the present moment, my visual art expression is pure and simple. I love to create lighthearted illustrations for personal entertainment. I once dreamed of illustrating childrens books, and the brief realization of this goal has satisfied my professional art making pursuits for the time being. As an elementary art teacher I am finding that creating opportunities for others to “experience art” is challenging yet incredibly rewarding. Through graduate studies in art education I am re-examining a field that has greatly impacted many of my professional and academic endeavors. The following quote reflects my current art inquiry;
“Out of the complexity that is art making, the teacher shapes a lesson, something derived from the teacher’s own personal educational history, knowledge of the needs of children, constraints of schools, and knowledge of the field of art. But from this vast array, how does one choose what to teach and who really decides?” (Maurice Brown and Diana Korzenik, Art Making and Education)
