Intrigued?
And in order that our soul may thus have what it takes to be content, it needs only to follow virtue diligently. For anyone who has lived in such a way derives satisfaction with such power to make him happy that the most vigorous assaults of the Passions never have enough power to disturb the tranquility of his soul. Rene Descartes, The Passions of the Soul, (article 148).
The concept of the passions, seeking a life of virtue and true control over your emotions, only comes through a process, and this complete corporal and psychological change emerges in reaction to this development. The process of shedding these emotions in the ultimate goal of virtue and as these emotional states lay lifeless underneath the image of virtue; it only shows of the manifestation that removes this control by the Passions of the Soul. Leaving only struggles and hindrances subordinate to the vital image that resides above and in control of these emotions.
