I was born and raised in Mexico, but I have been living in the U.S.A. for several years now. The opportunity of living in a foreign country has given me the possibility to coalesce my experiences and visualize differently the role that Mexican women play in my culture. These women have a huge potential that can be used to change the direction of our Mexican society. However, thanks to misbelieves, discrimination, machismo and taboos this potential is wasted. My painting deals with various issues such as the current sociopolitical context, health, and personal issues that concern women. This is my way of raising awareness.
To represent my ideas, I incorporate symbols and scientific elements drawn from my own science background, experiences, books, internet and imagination. To enrich my artwork and improve myself as an artist I try to be aware of what is happening in our social environment. I also find indispensable to visit museums, have contact with other artists, travel and be open to new experiences in different cultures.
