We had just finished the obligatory game of soccer with our Italian friends, sweating in the afternoon humidity. Once the royal palace of the Bourbon monarchy, then allied headquarters of southern Italy at the end of World War II, it was most recently the site of Star Wars filming (Naboo). I think part of me coveted the man’s solitude as he strolled through this serene bit of history.
