Self Portrait

Fired clay with paint. This piece reflects how I feel about my role as an art educator. The mask is a representation of my face made out of clay with a traditional design used by makers of African masks. I modeled my face out of clay to the best of my ability and as close to my likeness as possible. I then painted the design on the mask after it was fired. I created this piece to represent how I feel about my role as a teacher because the mask of my face represents how I will bring all of who I am and what I believe to my classroom to try to give my students the best art education that I can. The African design painted on the mask represents how I plan to bring into my classes as many different knowledge sources as possible and as many different aspects of multicultural and diversity education as possible to give my students the well rounded education that they deserve. 10.5"x7", 2005.
