NICOLLE ERZEN
Nicolle Erzen

I have always loved art. I love learning new techniques and experimenting with different mediums. I really enjoy photography and printmaking. I have had extensive practice in photography and had the opportunity of owning and operating my own darkroom. Even though it was located in my parents laundry room, I still produced a good body of work. I am currently doing my emphasis in printmaking here at the U of A.
I feel the best way for me to pursue a career in art is to teach it. I enjoy teaching new techniques and new ways of making art. I like the feeling I get from students excitement and amazement when they accomplish something they feel proud of. I’ve always had teachers that have been wonderful advocates for art. I think the main reason I wanted to become an art teacher is because of my high school art teacher senior year. She was awful to me. I felt she didn’t like me because I didn’t share my feelings with her, like some of the other girls. I feel like if I had a teacher that really inspired me more my senior year, I would have had a better time getting into college. I hope when I become an art teacher I will do the opposite, and inspire others.
I also owe my artistic career to my parents. Being an artist herself, my mother always is encouraging me to do artwork. She would take me everywhere to see anything that had to do with art. She always took me into New York City to museums and galleries. She took me all over Europe for a month which changed my life. My father spoils me every chance he gets and supports me in whatever I do. I am very lucky to have a family that stands by me.
